The practice of a woman assuming the surname of her husband upon marriage is a social custom and not a law. A simple procedure is available to a divorced person who wishes to retake and reuse his/her maiden name. A request to change a child's name is within the discretion of the court and may be changed upon an affirmative showing that the proposed change is in the child's best interests. |
